Я не могу устоять, когда друг задаёт вопросы. От Субоши:

1. Самое некрасивое платье позже XIV века, которое ты когда-либо видела. Чем оно было некрасиво?

Задумалась. Сначала ничего не приходило в голову, и я сделала вывод, что память милосердно отвергает некрасивое, и я запоминаю только прекрасное. Потом подумала, что во всём можно найти прелесть, а на некрасивое я и внимания не обращу. И тут.. Тут я вспомнила платья Поля Пуаре второй половины 1910-х и 20-х. Это просто-таки "ожидание vs реальность"! Прекрасные ткани, лаконичный крой, ты смотришь на отличную музейную фотографию с правильно выставленным светом, с манекеном в правильной позе, снятую с правильного ракурса - сбоку, и любуешься. А потом ты видишь следующую фотографию. Попроще. Анфас. И... это уныние, которые не украшает фигуру, а уродует. Широкое, плоское, несимпатичное. Всякий раз попадаю в эту ловушку и всякий раз расстраиваюсь.

2. Что ты испытываешь, гуляя по Аптекарскому огороду? Как ты побывала там впервые?

Наверное... это единственное место и время, когда я теперь бываю по-настоящему счастлива. Это праздник, который всегда со мной. Четыре года назад человек, ставший моим близким другом, узнав, что я там ни разу не была, предложил прогуляться - так всё и началось. Я видела его во все времена года, во всем времена суток - кроме ночи, когда он закрыт. Я видела его цветущим, под снегом и цветущим под снегом. Мы изучили каждый уголок, но даже если бывать там раз в месяц или чаще, обязательно обнаруживается что-то новое! И он никогда, никогда, никогда не надоедает. Ты следишь за тем, как разросся этот куст, а там, наоборот, проредили. Как заканчивает цвести одно и начинает другое. Ты знаешь, где искать подснежники, где - форзицию, а где - яблоню с розовыми цветками. Словом - я это поняла, пока писала - Аптекарский огород заменил мне мой собственный сад. Когда-то я проводила в том саду каждое лето, но последние шесть лет удаётся приехать только несколько раз в сезон. Так что Аптекарский занимает то место в душе, которое отведено для садов, потому что нет ничего прекраснее садов и книг.

3. Если бы ты выиграла в лотерею путёвку куда угодно ровно на три дня, не считая дороги, куда бы ты поехала?

Заметалась, но план сложился быстро. Я даже восхитилась своей практичностью. Лондон. День - на Национальную портретную галерею и Тауэр (Британским музеем пожертвую, ладно уж, как и всем остальным), день - на музей Виктории и Альберта и одну частную галерею с портретами любимой эпохи, день - на Гайд-парк и Кенсингтонский сад. Можно ехать!

4. Что может неожиданно заставить тебя посмотреть на человека, как на потенциального сексуального партнёра?

Моя собственная реакция. Если я (как правило, внезапно) понимаю, что охотно иду на физический контакт - даже самый невинный, заметим, вроде прикосновения к руке, или что-то в этом роде - это означает, что пока сознание спало, подсознание сработало, и - да, я, получается, могу рассмотреть человека в этом качестве. Даже если это поначалу мне и в голову не приходило. )

5. Какого исторического персонажа ты хотела бы сыграть, но пока ни разу не?

Двух. Две женщины из рода Тюдоров. Мария - да-да, Мария Кровавая (вовсе не такая уж кровавая), глубоко несчастная женщина, всё время надеявшаяся на лучшее, и получившая от отца (гнусный Генрих!) не самое приятное наследство. Хочется её реабилитировать! И Елизавета - стареющая Елизавета в погоне за ускользающей красотой, швыряющая зеркала, раздающая оплеухи юным хорошеньким служанкам, которые смеют сиять свежестью в её присутствии, цепляющаяся за надежду, что она всё ещё привлекательна для очередного фаворита. И при этом - королева. Единственное настоящее утешение - замужество за Англией.

6. Если бы от тебя могли остаться на выбор собрание сочинений или галерея портретов, что бы ты предпочла?

На этом вопросе я мысленно вспискнула и расстроилась от невозможности выбрать и то, и другое, и мысленно металась секунды три. Ну, хорошо, пять. ) И изнывала. Потом вздохнула.. и с сожалением, но твёрдо рассталась с видением галереи портретов. Собрание сочинений, конечно! Потому что это, как мне кажется, куда ценнее для потомков. Портрет - это прекрасно, галерея - ещё прекраснее. Однако взглянул, насладился, и, скорее всего, забыл. Или не забыл, а вспоминаешь время от времени. То ли дело книга! В начале было слово, и, конечно, текст важнее картинок.

Hong Kong plans to install thousands of surveillance cameras. Critics say it’s more proof the city is moving closer to China

Glance up while strolling through parts of downtown Hong Kong and, chances are, you’ll notice the glassy black lens of a surveillance camera trained on the city’s crowded streets.

And that sight will become more common in the coming years, as the city’s police pursue an ambitious campaign to install thousands of cameras to elevate their surveillance capabilities.

Though it consistently ranks among the world’s safest big cities, police in the Asian financial hub say the new cameras are needed to fight crime – and have raised the possibility of equipping them with powerful facial recognition and artificial intelligence tools.

That’s sparked alarm among some experts who see it as taking Hong Kong one step closer to the pervasive surveillance systems of mainland China, warning of the technology’s repressive potential.

Hong Kong police had previously set a target of installing 2,000 new surveillance cameras this year, and potentially more than that each subsequent year. The force plans to eventually introduce facial recognition to these cameras, security chief Chris Tang told local media in July – adding that police could use AI in the future to track down suspects.
In a statement to CNN, the Hong Kong Police Force said it was studying how police in other countries use surveillance cameras, including how they use AI. But it’s not clear how many of the new cameras may have facial recognition capabilities, or whether there’s a timeline for when the tech will be introduced.

Tang and the Hong Kong police have repeatedly pointed to other jurisdictions, including Western democracies, that also make wide use of surveillance cameras for law enforcement. For instance, Singapore has 90,000 cameras and the United Kingdom has more than seven million, Tang told local newspaper Sing Tao Daily in June.

While some of those places, like the UK, have started using facial recognition cameras, experts say these early experiments have highlighted the need for careful regulation and privacy protections. Hong Kong police told CNN they would “comply with relevant laws” and follow strong internal guidelines – but haven’t elaborated in depth on what that would look like.

Since President Donald Trump won the election in November, businesses across the globe have been bracing for higher tariffs — a key Day One promise the president made.

But over a week into his presidency, Trump has yet to enact any new tariffs.

That could change, come 11:59 p.m. ET on Saturday — the deadline Trump set for when he says he will slap 25% tariffs on all Mexican and Canadian goods and a 10% tariff on all Chinese goods.

The tariffs, he said, will be imposed as a way of punishing the three nations, which Trump claims are responsible for helping people enter the country illegally and supplying fentanyl consumed in the US.

Speaking to reporters from the Oval Office on Thursday, Trump said he meant business, especially with his tariff threats on Mexico and Canada. White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt also confirmed on Friday that Trump will levy the 10% tariff on China on Saturday.
